This book is excellent. It breaks down each element of design, taking you through the thinking processes of expert interior designers. The book is extremely comprehensive and offers its suggestions in short and to-the-point segments. I bought this book for my mother as her house was destroyed in Hurricane Harvey and she wanted some design help as she hasn’t had to design a house in 25 years. She’s not confident about her design skills, but I think this will be helpful for her because of the way the book slowly walks you through every element of interior design.

This book was a beautiful collection of photos and guidelines about residential interior design. I couldn’t put it down for 2 days — read it from start to finish! It’s a great read for a hobbyist looking to incorporate interior design principles into styling a new home (like myself), but I can easily imagine it being a great resource to even trained interior designers. It’s also an excellent coffee table book and great conversation-starter!

This book is based on the curriculum at NYSID. There are plenty of inspiring pictures, but also plenty of technical information to use when designing rooms. I bought this to use while redecorating and remodeling my home because I need more than pretty pictures to help me on this project.

I studied at the New York school of design , a million years ago but this is the book we should have used , not the history of furniture which was great , but this has all a young designer needs to know to really get started . Gtreat photos and good information . Highly recommend it .

This a fantastic book for residential interior design. There are many great resources for commercial interiors but not a lot of great content about process etc.. geared toward residential. This book is actually based on best professional practices and processes (yes, there really are such things!). Additionally, the design and visuals of the book are well done. It’s nice to see a book about residential design that isn’t fluff.
