I have read so many books and watched training videos on so many subjects; and find one recurring point – the description that states for ‘beginners to advanced’. This however is not generally the way in which most ‘beginners’ books are written. The first chapter or two are somewhat easy to follow, after that the books tend to kick into supercharged turbo mode and accelerate into the advanced features or in many cases(what you supposedly know from working with a previous versions of the software – which in most cases is NOT the case). My point is that this book truly is written for all levels. There are no sped up chapters. They are all written with the same steady pace forward and with that, this book is truly for beginners to gradually step up into more advanced features. One additional concern I had was the date in which this volume was published – 2004. We’re 3/4 of the way through 2013 at this time, and I’m quite pleased to say that the information in this book is 99% compatible with today’s version of Autodesk Maya 3D. There are a few minor adjustments that could be made to put it into the 100% compatible classification, but the changes are so slight and obvious that there is no need to fear any misunderstanding with the differences. The MSRP for this book is rather high, but if you truly want to learn 3D Animation from zero experience and up, it’s well worth the asking price.
