Another great book by Christopher. If you are into modeling, read this. Excellent techniques explained and an engaging writing style. This is a winner. It is more advanced than his motorcycle book, so if you are fairly new to blender and/or modeling, I would start with that one first. This one is perfect for intermediate hard surface modeler.

For me, the best way to learn a program is give myself a task an study the way to complete it. That’s exactly what this book does, helping me thru all steps, giving the precise instructions without boring and unnecessary info. Good learning curve and easy to follow even for non-native english speakers like me.

I got the book a few days ago and am very satisfied with the purchase. I started learning Blender a few months ago and have gotten to the point where I know where everything is, but was a little shaky as to what the methodology was in building a complex model. For an intermediate user this book is gold. It shows you enough to get you going but not the really basic stuff which was not necessary. Was was great is it gives you a systemfor breaking down complex models into easier chunks. In the beginning he shows how to model something but then shows you details to build and lets you figure it out for yourself. I finished the modeling phase of his steam punk gun and just left off some details I felt were a little overkill. I am working on his spaceship now and everything is going smoothly. I never did want to model people and creatures so him not covering them is OK by me.

It’s a wonderful book and I’m very happy to have it as a resource or to just flip through for some information or inspiration

I wanted to build sophisticated objects for use in Second Life but knew I needed to go beyond the common building geometry offered in Second Life. Blender would be the logical next step. But learning Blender is a daunting task and while there’s many fine YouTube videos out there, their different lessons would all be for different models/projects. Mr. Kuhn gives you a beginning to end approach on the same project while showing you specific uses for Blender tools. Subsequent models then teach you new tools while not having to waste time re-explaining the previous tools. The book also shows you what errors to avoid and the whys of using one method over another. The industrial objects (gun, spaceship, robot, truck) made fit my needs perfectly, but even if you’re not intending to create those types of models, Mr. Kuhn’s instruction lends itself towards creating anything 3D. As for price, I know there’s other books available for $5 but you get what you pay for. You’re buying experience and clarity here. Money well spent.

This work by Christopher Kuhn is worth every cent you spend on it, and every minute you spend with it. Aimed at the experienced, intermediate Blender developer and it delivers.

I bought this because I am only interested in modelling futuristic machines/space craft and this book provided an excellent guide. As far as the book is concerned, the examples given (ie gun) are just that……….examples. They are used as a means of teaching the modelling tecniques which can later be adapted by the user to create anything and I found the instructions easy to followOne 1 star comment referred to ‘free’ online tuition ……well virtually all the Blender online tuition vids I’ve seen are either very amateurish or difficult to understand…. personally, I prefer having a hard copy reference book next to my computer when I’m using Blender.Regarding the criticism of the dark images in the book, it is possible to download full colour images (as PDFs) from the website provided (page 3 in the book). Finally,it is important to realise that the book doesn’t cover Blender basics (ie creating shapes, moving/translating/scaling , edit/object mode etc) but these basics don’t take long to learn (however if you’re completely new to Blender it may be better to get a ‘basic’ guide).

Great book, I love using blender and have been using it for like 5 years. I have even bought a few plugins for it. Including retopoflow, hard ops, and box cutter. I saw this book had a tutorial for a gun (ive always wanted to model guns, I model swords a lot) in the sample and wanted to see what else it had in store.
